US inventory liquidation strategy for UK brands

US stock can tie up cash long after a launch or seasonal push has ended. I help UK-based brands build an inventory recovery plan around stock condition, ownership, carrying cost and approved commercial terms. The objective is a usable decision and buyer proposition, not indiscriminate discounting across the main retail offer.

The commercial starting point

Treat US stock recovery as a commercial decision with boundaries

The first task is to establish what can actually be sold. An inventory file may combine available units, reserved stock, damaged goods and items whose condition has not been confirmed. I work with your operations owner to define the saleable pool, the location of the goods and the evidence a potential trade buyer would need. For a UK brand, the review also names the person authorized to approve a US stock transaction and the specialists who confirm contractual, tax and logistics responsibilities. My role is to organize the recovery strategy and buyer-facing process around those approved inputs. We compare potential recovery with ongoing carrying costs and the effect on the brand's other channels, then decide how to package the offer and where a private quote is required.

The decisions this project should resolve

Segment stock by recovery opportunity

Separate products by condition, age, quantity, location and commercial restrictions. Identify which items could form a coherent buyer lot and which require a different route. A clean stock schedule makes the conversation more useful than a single total unit count with no explanation of what those units represent.

Approve the recovery boundary

Establish the minimum decision inputs for a quote: unit or lot basis, availability window, collection responsibilities and approval owner. Review potential channel conflict before public promotion. The brief distinguishes a private recovery offer from a consumer discount campaign so the brand does not send conflicting price signals.

Prepare a credible buyer pack

Provide the product references, quantities, condition descriptions and supporting images the buyer can evaluate. Label indicative information clearly and keep it current through the quoting process. Connect the inquiry with a named owner who can confirm details rather than promising stock that has not been checked.

How we work

A defined scope, from evidence to the next action

Delivery is remote with your UK commercial team and the owner of the US stock records. The project can cover stock segmentation, offer preparation and the inquiry workflow. Brokerage, guaranteed disposal, contract execution and physical handling are not assumed; the engagement identifies who owns each of those responsibilities before buyer activity begins.

Reconcile the stock file

Review available quantities, locations, conditions and ownership with operations. Resolve contradictions between the commercial file and the source inventory record. Establish which evidence may be shared with buyers and who updates it as stock changes.

Compare and package recovery routes

Evaluate the commercial logic of individual lines, mixed lots and staged offers. Document the approved pricing inputs and channel boundaries. Prepare material around the buyer decision instead of simply publishing a spreadsheet of aging items.

Make the inquiry process accountable

Test the path from a stock request to an authorized quote and the agreed next step. Record the buyer context and stock references. Give the team a consistent process for changes in availability, approvals and follow-up.

Questions before we scope the work

Does the inventory have to be in the UK?

No. This scope concerns stock held in the United States for a UK-based brand. The physical stock location, owner and permitted sale route determine the brief; moving goods internationally is not assumed.

Can you guarantee a buyer or a recovery price?

The project delivers an agreed recovery strategy, approved buyer material and an actionable inquiry route. Pricing and transaction decisions remain with the authorized owner. Any buyer outreach or brokerage arrangement is defined separately rather than implied by the strategy work.
